Celebration, Florida

I often forget how awesome Celebration, Florida for a traveler, because it is my daily stomping grounds. Celebration, Florida was designed by Disney in the 1990s. Walt had a Dream of a community in Florida. His dream plans turned into Epcot but the Disney Imagineers did not forget about his ideas. They brought in top architects like Cesar Pelli, Micheal Graves, and Phillip Johnson.  There are beautiful walking trails for bird watching and you are likely to see a gator. You can rent a bike or a surrey from Celebration Bike Rental
Favorite Restaurants in Celebration:

Cocoa Beach, Florida

From Orlando, the closest beach is Cocoa Beach. It takes about an hour and a half to drive to Cocoa Beach. The main activity in cocoa is surfing and Ron Jon surf shop is the hub of this activity. You can rent surf boards here or next door at cocoa beach surf company. You can even take lessons. When my boys were teens we would take mini vacations to Cocoa Beach.
The best restaurants in Cocoa Beach:

Melbourne, Florida – Dog-Friendly Beach Town

Another great day trip from Orlando is Melbourne Florida. You could venture south of Cocoa and visit Melbourne. From Orlando, it is a couple of hours. Melbourne is super pet-friendly. Many of the local restaurants have outdoor seating and allow your dog. They also have water bowls for Fido. Plus a huge dog beach.
Best restaurants in Melbourne:

St. Augustine, Florida

For an adventure into the past, visit St. Augustine. It is about 2 to 2.5 hours from Orlando. If you get up really early you can enjoy a great day at St. Augustine but we usually spend a night. We enjoy the ghost tours so staying for those and then driving home is a bit exhausting.
A couple of our favorite things to do in St. Augustine are Ripley’s Ghost Train and Whetstone Chocolate Factory tour.
Favorite Restaurants in St Augustine:
  • Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grille  – I love sitting in the courtyard here and the fried green tomatoes here make me smile
  • Columbia Restaurant – Order the arroz con pollo as soon as you sit down because it takes awhile but it is worth it.
  • Collage Restaurant – This restaurant is my daughter’s favorite and she is very particular.  The grouper is wonderful
Please enjoy the sights, sounds, and especially the taste of Orlando, FL.
Happy Travels,
Kimberly
